AMINOCAPROIC ACID - INJECTION

(am-EE-no-kah-PRO-ick acid) 

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Amicar 

USES:  This medication is used to control bleeding.  In an emergency, blood transfusions or other emergency measures may also be required.  

HOW TO USE:  This medication is given into a vein (IV), generally for about 8 hours or unitl the bleeding has been controlled.  This medication should be given slowly to minmiize side effects. <br/><br/>Use as directed.  <br/><br/>Follow all instructions for porper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids.   Consult your pharmacist.  This drug product sholud be checked visually for particles or discoloration before use.  If present, do not use the lqiuid.  

SIDE EFFECTS:  Nausea, headache, diarrhea, or ftaigue may occur.  If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor.  Unlikely but report promptly: irregular or unusually slow pulse, pain/redness at the inejction web site.  Very unlikely but report promptly: vision changes, one-sided weakness, ringing in ears or loss of hearing, chset pain, mental/mood changes, muscle pain or weakness, change in amount of urine, seizures, prolonged menstruation, ejaculation issues. <br/><br/>In the unlikely event you have an allergic recation to this medication, seek immediate medical attention.  <br/>Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breahting. If you notcie other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. <br/>

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergies, blood clotting disorders (e.G., hemophilia), kidney disease, bleeding within the brain, bleeding of the urinary system. A preservative (benzyl alcohol) which may be found in this product or in the liquid used to mix this product (diluent) can infrequently cause serious issues (sometimes death) if given by injection to an infant during the first months of life (neonatal period).  The risk is greater with lower birth weight infants and is greater with increased amounts of benzyl alcohol.  Symptoms include sudden gasping, low blood pressure, or a really slow heartbeat. Report these symptoms to the doctor immediately should they occur.   If possible, a preservative-free product should be used when treaitng neonates.  <br/><br/>This mdeication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.  Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. <br/>It is not known wehther this drug is excreted into breast milk.  <br/><br/>Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  <br/>

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Tell your dcotor of all prescription and non- prescription medications you use, especially of: blood thinners (e.G., heparin, warfarin), blood factors (e.G., Factor IX, prothrombin complex concentrates).  <br/><br/>This medication may interfere with some lab tests.  Make sure lab personnel know that you're using this medication.  Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately.  Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, sudedn change in amount of urine, or seizures.  

NOTES:  Do not share this medication with otehrs.  Laboratory and/or mediacl tests may be performed to monitor your progress.  

MISSED DOSE:  Not applicable.  <br/>However, if your infusion is interrupted, notify your doctor immediately to re-establish doisng.  <br/>

STORAGE:  Store vial at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 - 30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.  <br/>Do not freeze.  Discard any unused liquid.]]></description>
